European breakdown cover
12 months UK and Europe breakdown cover
We know how stressful it can be when your vehicle breaks down, especially when it’s in a different country. Our European breakdown cover is an annual policy that provides breakdown assistance and recovery throughout the UK and Europe.
Hadleigh Breakdown provides the policy, which is separate from your main motor insurance policy and won’t affect your No Claims Bonus or renewal premium. So, you can rest assured that if something happens while you’re on your travels, you’re in good hands.
In the UK
- Breakdown roadside assistance.

In Europe
- Covers vehicles up to 10 years old.
- Roadside assistance or recovery to a local repairer.

In the UK
Nationwide roadside assistance
The policy provides on-site assistance, where a roadside technician will attempt to diagnose the fault and try and repair your vehicle at the scene of the breakdown.
Messaging service for family and friends
When delayed, a messaging service is provided (upon request), so you can let your family and friends know what’s happened.
Onward transport
If your vehicle can’t be fixed at the roadside, Hadleigh Breakdown will get you and up to 7 passengers to your home, onward destination or a local garage.
Replacement driver
The policy provides a replacement driver up to £100 per day and £500 in total following the death, injury or serious illness of the only available driver (proof will be required).
Overnight accommodation
If the vehicle cannot be fixed on the day, the policy provides up to £35 per person per night for the driver and up to 7 passengers for overnight accommodation.
Any driver
It doesn’t matter who is driving at the time, this policy covers any legal driver using the vehicle.
Home assistance
Should you require breakdown assistance at your home address, the policy will provide a technician and where necessary transport you to a garage of your choice within 20 miles of your home address.
In Europe (covers vehicles up to 10 years old)
Roadside assistance
Hadleigh Breakdown will arrange for a roadside technician to try and repair your vehicle at the scene of the breakdown. If the vehicle cannot be fixed at the roadside, they’ll get you and up to 7 passengers to a local repairer.
24-hour English-speaking helpline
24/7 assistance to ensure you’re not left stranded anywhere in the middle of the night.
Vehicle hire
Up to £150 vehicle hire, so you can continue your journey.
Overnight accomodation
If the vehicle cannot be fixed on the day, the policy provides up to £35 per person per night for the driver and up to five passengers for overnight accommodation.
Note: Cover within Europe applies to vehicles up to 10 years old. The vehicle must not be used outside the UK for more than 30 days in a row or more than 60 days in total during the period of insurance.

What’s not covered?
- A car that is not in a roadworthy condition without road tax and MOT.
- Vehicle recovery is not covered during the first 48 hours of cover commencing. (This does not apply when you are renewing you policy).
- Loss or damage to your vehicle.
- Cost of any parts or third-party repairs.
